Los Angeles Neighborhood Information
Cost of Living: With the amount of opportunity, especially for those in television, media & technological industries, living here is going to cost more than your average California city. Median cost of homes here is $421,700, almost $100,000 more than the state’s median.
Schools: The public school system for kids K-12 is the largest, based on number of students, in the United States. Due to size and urban scenery, it actually has its own police force. It has fairly good ratings but is also known for crowded schools, packed classrooms, and a disappointing drop out rate (32% for high school students in 2014). This was, LA Superintendent John Deasy said, due to severe cuts experienced in 2013. There are also a large number of private establishments.
University wise, however, Los Angeles boasts some of the top universities in the country – home to University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and University of Southern California (USC).
Population: As of 2013, the approximate number of residents here in the region was 10 million. The average age of these residents? 34.1 years. With about two-thirds of the population being Caucasian, there are about two-thirds following under the ethnic categories of African-American, Hispanic, Asian and other ethnicities.

Weather:- 70 degrees and sunny. Just about every day. Just about all year.
Top Employers & Economy: Surprisingly, the median level of income does not correlate with the price of housing. The median household earnings are about $46,800, almost $10,000 less than the median household earnings of the state ($58,328). This may be due to the large number of people who take “starving artist” jobs to pay the bills until they reach their big time movie dreams.
As for top employers, that would be: the County of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Unified School District and the Federal Government. Now, if you’re not being employed by the government, some other likely employers include Kaiser Permanente, universities like USC, Target, Boeing Co., Walt Disney Co., Wells Fargo, Warner Brothers Entertainment and FedEx Corp.
Los Angeles Movers Might Find These Things Fun To Do
Some more famous than others, here are some fantastic places you’ll want to arrange to visit and explore once in LA.
- Universal Studios Hollywood - The Jurassic Park Ride alone will have you wanting to buy a season pass to come back again and again. A great investment pass, especially for families with kids.
- Griffith Observatory - This facility rests on one of LA’s hills and is beloved by many astronomers. Whether you’ve spoken on Nova or simply love the stars, check out the next solar eclipse here.
- Disneyland - The Happiest Place on Earth. Need we say more?
- Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels - This incredibly beautiful cathedral is worth visiting, whether you’re a practicing Catholic or simply a lover of great architecture. (Morning masses are offered through the week as well as the standard Sunday.)
Los Angeles Moving Companies Might Not Know These Fun Facts
- If LA was a country instead of a city, its economy would be greater than the size of Saudi Arabia’s, Switzerland’s and Sweden’s.
- That famous Hollywood sign you’re going to visit and likely snap pictures of? Originally read “Hollywoodland”. Not quite as catchy as the shorter version!
