Hello & Welcome Virginia Movers!
The Old Dominion
Welcome to Virginia, the former dominion of the English Crown and state that’s been the birthplace to the most U.S. presidents. A state crucial to U.S. history and still a strong part of the government today, there is a lot to be excited about upon moving here.
Relocating to Virginia - Important New Resident Information
You’re moving to the “Mother of Presidents” and want to get your relocation details straight. To help make your move smooth, start by acquainting yourself with the steps below.
- If you’re moving from out-of-state and have a valid, out-of-state license, the DMV may simply exchange your current license with a Virginia Driver’s License. Go to your local Virginia DMV with proper documentation, and they can help you with the switch.
- Make sure to get a Vehicle Safety Inspection Sticker because having your vehicle pass an annual inspection test is a legal requirement here. Without the sticker, you can receive a ticket from police.
- Your vehicle has to pass an emissions inspection in order to drive in certain counties.
- Insurance laws are strict here, and the bottom line is, you have to have them. Virginia’s minimum requirements for all vehicles registered to the state (working or not) are as follows:
- $25,000 for bodily injury or death of one person;
- $50,000 for bodily injury or death of two or more people; and
- $20,000 for property damage.
