Welcome Colorado Movers - New Residents of Colorado!
Welcome to Colorado, where the first rodeo was held and “America the Beautiful” was written (inspiration acquired atop Pikes Peak). This mountainous region is famous for the altitude activities it inspires, like world-class snowboarding and skiing. This terrain has truly molded the state’s culture and makes relocation here exciting!
Relocating to Colorado - Being a New Resident
Colorado has a plethora of great cities to relocate to, the largest ones being Denver, Colorado Springs, Boulder, Fort Collins, Aurora, Aspen, Pueblo, Durango, Grand Junction, Littleton, Greeley, Vail, Longmont, Loveland, Glenwood Springs, Golden, Steamboat Springs, Lakewood, Castle Rock, Arvada, Broomfield, Centennial, Englewood, Pagosa Springs, Ouray and Westminster. Whichever city you choose, you’ll want to make sure to take care of getting a new license & getting registration with the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Top priorities will be in the list below:
- If you have a license issued from another state in the US, you can convert it to an Colorado license. Make sure to visit your local DMV to get your new license within 30 days of establishing residency. (You can do this without having to retake the written or on-road tests!)
- You’ll need insurance for your car from a company licensed to do business in Colorado. Reach out to a Colorado insurance agent, and they will be happy to get you insurance through the state of Colorado.
- Make sure to register your vehicle within 90 days of establishing residency. You can do this at the DMV.
- Your car may need to go through a VIN inspection and/or an emissions inspection to be registered. See if your car meets the needs at the following link: http://www.dmv.org/co-colorado/smog-check.php
Important Information for Colorado Moving Quotes
Weather: The climate here is not as straightforward as many other states due to the variation of the mountainous and plains filled region. To make it as specific as possible, we’ve broken it down by regions within the state.
- Eastern Plains: The climate here is semiarid. This means there is moderate precipitation, but low humidity. Days are often sunny and warm, contrasted by crisp & quite cool nights. April has the most rain, while March tends to have the most snowfall. (So don’t wait to buy your snowboard gear until February, that’s when prices will be highest!)
- Western Plains & Foothills: Weather is incredible diverse here, even mile to mile patterns can vary. Valleys tend to be semi-arid and, as elevation increases, the climate leans further and further into an alpine climate. Summers are fairly mild, although thunderstorms tend to bring in mightily cold days.
Severe weather to look out for, in any region, will be thunderstorms, extreme snow and tornadoes.
Population & Cost of Living: – Move here and join the population of about 5.26 million currently residing here. Because of the employment opportunities and incredible outdoors, cost of living is not exactly cheap. The Cost of Living Index ranking here is 112 compared to the national 100; this means that is costs approximately 12% more to live here than the average U.S. state.
Colorado's Employment Rate & Economy: Good to Know for Moving Companies
There are a wide variety of employment opportunities here, the majority of them being in the top industries: agriculture (wheat, cattle & sheep), tourism (especially during the winter season), mining (mostly for gold & silver), oil, finance and manufacturing.
The unemployment rate, as of Fall 2014, was 5.1%; this is about 1% below the U.S. national average, so there is more likelihood you’ll find a steady job here than a good portion of states in America.
